Colorado Shakespeare Festival Summer Job Opportunities
Staff Level
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival employs staff level technicians, artisans, and craftspersons in both production and costumes departments. Staff positions are ideal for seasoned professionals, early career artists, as well as those in advanced levels of professional training and / or who have 1 – 2 years of professional experience. Student Staff Level
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival has opportunities for students with current and continuing enrollment in an academic or vocational program, and who may have some advanced or professional experience. Student staff positions can be considered “entry level” and are ideal for technicians, artisans, and craftspersons who are ready to begin building their resume credits, and continue their professional development in production or costumes. Student staff positions are also ideal for motivated students who may not be pursuing a career in the performing arts, but who do have relevant interests and skill sets, and are looking for meaningful summer employment. ** Student staff positions are not just for CU Boulder students! Any actively enrolled student in any qualifying program in the United States who will not be graduating in Spring 2024 can apply!
Apprentice Level
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival has opportunities for novice technicians, artisans, and craftspersons in all areas of production, costumes, and stage management. Designed to foster interest and offer initial exposure to professional theater production, apprentices work alongside professional staff members in a “learning by doing” environment, participate in tech and dress rehearsals, and as part of a repertory company gain experience by working in the shops, running shows, and working changeovers. Apprenticeships are available in carpentry, paints, props, lighting / electrics, sound, costume stitching, costume crafts, wigs and makeup, and stage management. Send resume and cover letter to the CSF production manager, Jon Dunkle, at [email protected].
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival (the nation’s 2nd oldest summer Shakespeare festival) invites seasoned professionals, early career artists, and college level apprentices from all over the country to gather in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. For thirteen weeks actors, directors, designers, and artisans work together in a highly energized, artistic, respected summer theatre company.
Embracing a learning-by-doing approach, CSF apprentices work alongside and learn from everyone around them while creating beautiful productions, gaining valuable skills, nurturing artistic identities, building resume credits, making connections, and having fun.
- Apprentices receive on-the-job training with access to top industry professionals both in the shops and on stage.
- CSF Seminars offer apprentices trainings, lectures, and workshops. Weekly check-ins with supervisors provide apprentices real time feedback on professional development.
- Apprentices participate as members of run and changeover crews, learning to rehearse, run, and maintain a professional repertory season.
- Apprentices have the opportunity to put summer skills to work as designers, coordinators, and managers for the annual “original practices” performance.
- Company housing is provided (shared bedroom in 2-bedroom apartment).
- Weekly stipend.
